Asha Bhosle graces Couple of Things show

The episode takes listeners on a nostalgic journey as Asha Bhosle ji revisits the Famous Studio after 40 years where she first recorded a song at the tender age of 15. This iconic studio holds a special place in her heart, as it was here, decades before the rise of modern, high-tech recording spaces across Mumbai, that Asha ji gave voice to some of the most memorable songs in Indian music history.

A very nostalgic Asha ji was visibly emotional taking Anmol for a stroll in the studio premises where she reminisced about Raj Kapoor’s office, Shankar Jaikishan’s studio and the several rounds of chai over which they survived late-night rehearsals & recordings.

Asha ji shared stories about how the recording environment was back then with only 2 recording tracks as compared to 100 tracks today. She spoke with affection about the humble beginnings of her career and how she learnt from legends like Sahir Ludhianvi about conveying things humbly. One of the most moving moments of the podcast was when Asha ji shared her thoughts on her journey. In a deeply emotional revelation, she spoke about her desire to keep working until her last breath ” Mai Gaate gaate es duniya sey jaana chahti hoon” said the legend in a poignant and heartfelt statement whose career has shaped the soundtracks of multiple generations for over eight glorious decades.

RJ Anmol on podcast with Asha

Reflecting on the entire experience, RJ Anmol said, “It was a lifetime honour to host Asha ji, who has been the voice of a generation and an inspiration to so many of us. The chance to hear her stories, to walk with her through the very halls where she recorded timeless songs, was surreal. She is truly the “last empress of Indian Cinema, and I’m humbled that she chose Couple of Things as the platform for her podcast debut.”

This heartwarming episode not only offers a rare glimpse into Asha Bhosle’s personal life but also takes us back in time, giving listeners a deeper understanding of the history of Indian music and the woman who shaped its course.
